Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 package empanada discs 12 count
  • 1/2 cup diced yellow onion
  • 1/4 cup diced bell pepper
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp dried raisins
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Cook the Beef Filling

  • First, place your skillet on the stove. Add a little oil to the hot pan. Add your ground beef and diced onions. Cook the meat until it is brown. Break the meat into very small pieces. Drain any extra fat from the skillet now. This makes the filling much healthier for you.

Season the Meat Mix

  • Now you can add your bell peppers. Stir in the garlic and the ground spices. Add the cumin and the cinnamon carefully. Add the raisins to the pan as well. Let the mix cook for five minutes. This allows the spices to wake up. Your kitchen will smell like a tropical island. This is how to make Bahama Breeze Empanada taste great.

Cool the Filling Down

  • Turn off the heat on your stove. Move the meat to a separate bowl. Let the beef cool for ten minutes. Hot filling can melt the cold dough. You want the meat to be warm. Never put boiling hot meat on the dough. This is a very important step for success.

Prepare the Dough Discs

  • Lay your dough circles on the counter. Make sure the dough is not too sticky. You can use a little flour if needed. Space the discs out on your clean table. This gives you room to work quickly.

Fill the Empanadas

  • Place one spoonful of meat in the middle. Do not add too much filling today. Leave a small border around the edge. This space is for sealing the dough. A giant heap of meat is hard to fold. Keep the filling in the center only.

Fold and Seal the Dough

  • Fold the dough over the beef carefully. It should look like a half-moon shape. Press the edges down with your fingers. Now use your fork to press again. The fork marks look very professional. This seal keeps the juices inside the crust.

Apply the Egg Wash

  • Place the empanadas on your baking sheet. Beat your egg in a small bowl. Brush the egg over the top dough. This step is why they look golden. It adds a beautiful shine to the crust.

Bake in the Oven

  • Put the tray in a hot oven. Bake them for about 25 minutes total. Look for a deep golden brown color. The crust should feel very firm and crisp. Take them out of the oven carefully. Let them cool for a few minutes. Now you know how to make Bahama Breeze Empanada.
